Planned Obsolescence
By Mark Flippo
Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life, so it will become obsolete, that is, unfashionable or no longer functional after a certain period of time. The rationale behind the strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as "shortening the replacement cycle"). For example, when Japanese vehicles with longer lifespans entered the American market in the 1960s and 1970s, American carmakers were forced to respond by building more durable products.
I remember learning this terminology back in high school. When companies design things so that they do not have a long life span. They want to keep you buying their product more frequently. It is all about greed! Like the above photos these are some of the things that get outdated quickly!
People want the latest and greatest electronics. I remember when appliances and cars lasted longer. Nowadays your doing good just to have it last until it's paid off! We need to wise up and not play these greedy men's games. Pray about what you're going to buy before you do it. You may get one that will finally last longer.
