Oldest Running Car
By Mark Flippo
1884 De Don Bouton Et Trepardoux. Twin compound steam engines, “spade handle” steering, solid front and rear axles with semi-elliptic springs, locomotive-style connecting rod motion, single-acting mechanical brakes. Wheelbase: 43"
- Named “La Marquise” after the Count de Dion’s mother
- At 127 years of age, the oldest running motor car in the world
- Single family ownership for 81 years
- Participant in the first automobile race in 1887
- Capable of 38 mph, 20 miles on tank of water
An oldie but a goodie. Can you imagine riding in this car? It must have been very bumpy. Thirty eight miles to a gallon would compete with our modern day cars. This was steam so not much on the pollution scale. It did not carry a family. Seems like it might be fun on a clear day! Just because things get old does not mean they lose their usefulness. People do not become unimportant just because they have aged. To quickly have our aging saints been stuffed in a nursing home and forgotten! Their experience could save you from making a horrible error! Their experience should still matter! God put us each here on this planet to spread the Gospel of Peace! Please make them a part of your life. He has not taken them home yet. What do you think is the reason He has left an aging saint living at this time, to help you? Reach out and find out!
