Lost In Translation
By Mark Flippo
I have done translation from hearing to the Deaf Community I understand how one small gesture completely changes the context of the sentence, Many signs are very similar but with a huge leap and bound into what they mean. When I first started, the hearing impaired people I worked with were very kind and patient with me! But in the middle of church service I made a sign I though was right but apparently when their faces turned a very embarrassing red I knew I had messed up. I asked them to explain it later to me. I had made the sign for vagina! Now I understand my mistake! I gently went to the ladies and apologized! Never made that mistake since then. Changing from one language to another is a lot of work. You mess up a lot at first but you learn a lot!
